As-built documentation: compiled, digitised and archived
Short answer: As-built documentation is the set of drawings and documents showing a facility as it was actually built and commissioned. Nygrens helps compile, scan, sort, print and deliver it – as a digital archive, as binders, or both. Paper-to-digital conversion takes place in our own facility in Västerås, Sweden.
What as-built documentation is
During construction and installation, designs change. As-built documentation records the final result so that the owner can operate, maintain and modify the facility. The exact content is set by the contract and the owner’s requirements, but it typically includes drawings and diagrams, test and inspection protocols, commissioning documentation, manuals and equipment documentation.
Documentation is often built up in several phases, from tender through final inspection to handover, and comes from different sources: document systems, subcontractors and paper.
How we help
- Compile and sort. Picking, sorting according to your print instructions or sorting matrix, and packing for direct delivery with a table of contents and labelled packages for tracking.
- Fetch from your system. We retrieve information from your document management system.
- Scan and digitise. Paper drawings and documents converted to PDF, PDF/A or TIFF. Old blueprints and tracing paper included. See large-format scanning and document digitisation.
- Structure and metadata. Help structuring information and metadata in your system.
- Binders and indexes. Customer-specific binders and indexes, printed A4 and A3, drawings in colour or black and white.
- Interim storage during production for shorter lead times.
- Check before dispatch, if you wish.
The earlier we are involved, the better the conditions for efficient production and the fewer stops caused by missing information.
Digital, printed or both
Many projects need both: a digital archive for daily use and binders for handover. We deliver either, or both from the same material.
Old drawings to CAD
Scanned drawings can be vectorised to DWG. We assess the original first, and the result depends on its quality.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between as-built drawings and as-built documentation?
As-built drawings show the facility as built. As-built documentation also includes protocols, commissioning documentation, manuals and other documents that belong to the handover.
What belongs in the as-built documentation?
That is defined by your contract and the owner’s requirements. We help structure, sort and compile what has been specified.
Can you digitise old as-built drawings?
Yes. We scan drawings up to 90 cm wide, including blueprints and tracing paper.
Can you deliver both digital files and binders?
Yes, from the same material.
Can you work from our document system?
Yes. We can retrieve information from it and help structure metadata.
Can scanned drawings become CAD files?
Yes, through automatic vectorisation to DWG, assessed before any promise is made.
